Kathy McVay experienced that firsthand while watching the Philadelphia Phillies play the St. Louis Cardinals from behind home plate on Monday night. Per Philadelphia's ABC affiliate station, at one point during the game, the Phillies mascot Phillie Phanatic brought out a massive hot dog launcher and pelted food at the crowd, accidentally hitting McVay in the face with one.

McVay ended up trekking to the hospital to ensure that there were no injuries beyond just a black eye. Turns out she has a "small hematoma" in her eye, or blood gathered outside of a blood vessel. "Mostly, it's going to get worse before it gets better. It's going to go down the side of my face," she told WPVI.
The team has since apologized and according to ABC, has offered her tickets to upcoming games. In the meantime, McVay has to ice her eye every 20 minutes until the wound heals. Despite this, she's maintained a good attitude about the unusual mishap.
As she told NBC Philadelphia, "When I [told] my brothers they started laughing and I said 'well, at least it's funny and it's a story I can tell people.' My only thing is just to warn people to be careful."
