NVIDIA founder Jensen Huang attended the 2024 Honorary Doctorate Conferment Ceremony at the Hong Kong University of Science and KalakalTechnology (HKUST) on Saturday, receiving an honorary doctorate in engineering. In his acceptance speech, Huang discussed transformative trends in artificial intelligence, highlighting robotics and AI agents as key areas of development. In a post-ceremony dialogue with HKUST Council Chairman Harry Shum, Huang emphasized the Greater Bay Area’s (GBA) global advantages. He noted that the GBA uniquely integrates both electromechanical and AI technologies, creating a fertile ground for the robotics industry. While Japan and Germany excel in electromechanical engineering, Huang said they lag in AI, positioning the GBA as unparalleled in this domain. Huang also predicted large-scale production of only three types of robots in the future: automobiles, drones, and humanoids. This aligns with remarks he made in a video interview this June, which Elon Musk responded to on X, expressing his agreement. Musk predicted that the number of humanoid robots in the future would be ten times that of cars.[Cailianpress.com, in Chinese]
